Love these lilies. They remind of our visit to Butchart Gardens. What a great day for early summer. I was fortunate to have both my daughter and a visitor from Mexico to enjoy the beauty with. Amazingly, she met friends of her grandmother there and enjoyed a visit.

This is my second studio painting of this subject. I learned a lot painting these fantastic lilies. They towered elegantly above most of the other flowers at the garden. I particularly liked the contrast of the intense sunshine with the dark trees beyond.

This painting is now in a private collection in China.

Tribute to a Survivor

This painting of Morning Glories, begun at The Royal Bank, Oak Bay Branch and finished in my studio represents one of our persistent wild plants. Winding its way through meadows, forests and our gardens, it really brought glory one morning when I saw it.

Despite all our best efforts this determined volunteer winds its way into our gardens every year. If I am paying attention maybe this unappreciated plant teaches me a life lesson or two. Thriving on adversity, they never give up.

The Morning Glories in their simple beauty have made their place in our carefully arranged lives. Maybe I can find a small corner where nature can have its way and enjoy and applaud such a survivor.
